Smile and the world smiles with you (Credit: eelssej) Tracy Giles, a 49-year-old homemaker got back 16 permanent teeth after more than 3 years, thanks to this unique dental technology. Tracy had lost all her teeth because of a gum infection. She had been using a removable denture ever since.
The technology of implantation was introduced in June 2005 by Noble Biocare. This dental surgery involves no stitches or cutting of the gums and can be completed in an hour.
The dental surgeon places a bridge in the patient’s mouth and drills the places marked for implantation and fixes the screws. Then the surgeon will fix teeth made from metal titanium known as a process implants bridge manufactured in Sweden.
Before the surgery, the surgical template is used to fabricate a permanent prosthesis. A model is made with resin framework and sent to Sweden where they mill out the framework from a solid piece of titanium, called a PIB – Procera Implant Bridge. This framework is shipped back to the dental surgeon, where it is layered with acrylic or porcelain.
The dentist then places the implants with the help of the surgical template. Since the gums are not opened, the procedure is painless, with no swelling and minimal bleeding. The patient receives the permanent prosthesis immediately after the surgery. The procedure is called ‘teeth in an hour’ because the implants are placed in the same sitting as the final prosthesis.
