Glittering gold (Credit: Marios) Gold – this yellow metal has fascinated women to no end. Whether she is 18 or 80-years-old, gold is of a lot of importance to her. If you want to woo a woman, serenade her with gold; if you want to surprise your mother, gift her a piece of gold jewllery. Gold is now just not restricted to jewellery, it has made its way into facials too. Gold facials are much sought after by women who want to look bright and glowing. And now, gold has wound its way into a facial rejuvenation procedure done in Malayasia, known as the Gold Thread Procedure.
Women, in their quest to look younger, are going for facelifts, paying up to RM50, 000 for a gold thread procedure. A gold thread lift is a minimally-invasive cosmetic surgery procedure that improves facial wrinkles, sagging skin and jowls.
Gold threads are placed into your skin to encourage collagen production to fill wrinkles and reduce sagging skin. The 24-karat gold threads have few reported side effects but this is very expensive. Gold thread procedure is being done in some beauty salons and costs from RM11, 500 to RM50, 000.
Plastic surgeons, however, are not pleased about this procedure and believe that most people are heading for gold thread procedure because of the misconception that what is gold must be good and the more expensive it is, the better. Gold thread procedure is not approved by the US Food and Drug Administration and no studies have been done on its long-term effects. Surgeons have doubts about how 100 per cent gold thread, which is so thin and malleable can hold up somebody’s face.
Plastic surgeons in Malayasia urge people to consult doctors and surgeons before they decide to go in for any kind of cosmetic procedure.
