Are you thinking of getting your lips plumped up with injections? Here is a lowdown on the different types of injectable fillers that are available for lip augmentation:

Collagen: Since this has some risk of an allergic reaction, your doctor will test you for it before administering collagen filler. The effects of collagen will last for about 1-3 months and you will need another injection after that.

Autologen: This is your own collagen taken from your body and there are no chances of any allergic reaction.

Dermalogen: Also known as Human Tissue Matrix, this collagen is taken from a deceased human donor and can be absorbed by your body in a few months.

Fat: Fat is taken from your own body and injected into your lips. Though this lasts for over three months, it can result in lumpiness and scarring.

Fascia: This is a kind of connective tissue taken either from your own body or from a deceased human donor. As with the collagen, it gets absorbed by the body and has to be repeated. It can also be surgically implanted.

Artecoll: Artecoll is a synthetic material and can have long-lasting results. Though, since this is a synthetic material, there are greater chances of an allergic reaction. Artecoll consists of very tiny spheres contained in collagen. Over a period of 2 to 4 months, the collagen will be absorbed and your body will create a fibrous capsule around the spheres, holding them in position.

HylaForm: It is made from natural body substances and will get absorbed into the lips quickly, resulting in further injections.

Restylane: Restylane is a clear gel and is biodegradable that contains hyaluronic acid, so it will be absorbed into the body after about six months.

Fat Grafting: In fat grafting, fat from your own body is inserted into your lips to make them look plumper.

Local Flap Grafts: In this lip augmentation procedure, tissue and skin from the inside of you mouth to reconstruct the lips.

Alloderm: Collagen from a deceased human donor is used to create an implant that is inserted into a patient’s lips, through tiny incisions. The results last for about a year.

Gore Tex: This is a synthetic substance that can have permanent results.
