Colours in your make-up kit (Credit: kanko) Most women like to use cosmetics – soft, creamy lipsticks in pretty hues, lip glosses for that extra sheen, sparkling nail varnishes, creams and lotions, fragrant soaps and gels.
We are armed with a multitude of cosmetic products and at anytime our handbags and vanity kits are stuffed with quick cosmetic products to make us look pretty. But sometimes, cosmetics can have just the opposite effect – they can cause allergic reactions in the form of rashes, welts and itching.
Cosmetics are made of many chemicals and any of these can cause problems to our skin. A cosmetic nowadays contains so many ingredients that it is becoming difficult for a user to find out what might have caused the problem. Cosmetics can cause dermatitis.
The most common dermatitis problems that may be caused by cosmetics are allergic contact dermatitis and irritant contact dermatitis. Irritant contact dermatitis is caused by the contact with any substance that hurts the skin. Allergic contact dermatitis is caused when you are allergic to any substance. The allergy can show immediately or after months of using a product.
If you’ve sensitive skin and are prone to allergies, then use cosmetics that contain very few ingredients. It’s a good idea to write down what causes allergic reaction to you and avoid using that product. Over time, you will have a list of cosmetic products that cause a problem and will be able to choose the right cosmetics.
