Looking young is the way to be these days. It’s the perfect, plastic look that is so popular. Most people want a wrinkle-free face, sharper nose, a dazzling smile, brighter eyes and rounder breasts. But on the other hand, along with wrinkles, cosmetic surgery may erase other natural elements too.
Says Maya McWood, a 38-year-old children’s storybook writer, “Cosmetic surgery removes those signs of happiness that have accumulated on your face in the form of laughter lines, the crow’s feet that you got due to all those family holidays spent in the sun.”
As we age, our bodies become prone to wrinkles. This is a natural process. By expressing different emotions our faces can crease and those creases can become permanent with the help of the sun and time. If we were to one day remove these wrinkles caused from these emotions, our past too would be erased. Wisdom we have gained, happiness we have shown, sadness we have experienced can disappear with the injection of a needle.
Cosmetic surgery also doesn’t alter genes and neither does it stop the process of aging.
“I knew of a lady who got breast augmentation surgery to get bigger breasts. Over the years, the rest of her body has aged, but her breasts have not caught up,” says Simona Wilson, explaining that getting our features tweaked to look younger, does look artificial.
Some people may agree with Simona and Maya – that having cosmetic surgery may not be such a good idea. But, then the research about the popularity of cosmetic surgery shows a different story. To each unto his own. Amen!
