Twin beauties
This is the story of twin sisters. They looked alike, but one of them decides to have cosmetic surgery while the other is happy with her wrinkles.
Isla and Mary always looked enough alike to confuse people. At Isla’s wedding, the groom’s mother broke into tears seeing the bride walk down the aisle dressed in pink, not white; not realizing it was her twin Mary, the maid of honor.
As little girls, they sometimes wore matching outfits but developed different tastes. Mary liked bold colors. Isla favored pastels. Isla married young and had four children. Mary married later and had no children.
The sisters have independent streaks. “We didn’t do things like read each other’s minds,” says Mary, the twin with the new younger face.
Mary is a professional cellist who’s played on concert stages around the world. For 10 years, she performed in Las Vegas, where she learned “it’s not enough to sit and play well. You have to look good.” When she started getting film parts as a musician, appearance became even more of a factor.
When Mary’s hair began to turn gray, she dyed it blond, but worried about her face. “I saw the lines, sags and wrinkles of the years pile on.” So in her late 50s, Mary began thinking about cosmetic surgery.
Also musical, Isla plays the viola but only occasionally as a professional. Her career has mostly been as a Braille transcriber. She never considered cosmetic surgery. Isla is content with the way she looks and feels there is nothing wrong with looking your age.
In current photographs, the women don’t look like twins, although there’s a resemblance. Mary describes her new face as thinner and her skin smoother since surgery. She believes it has helped her get jobs.
