Money matters  (Credit: refractedmoments)

Are you planning on having liposuction and wondering about the cost? The cost of surgery is a major concern and you should do your groundwork before the price of a procedure before you go into the hospital for liposuction or any other cosmetic procedure.  Liposuction costs are not covered by health insurance because it is considered a cosmetic surgery.

Liposuction costs have remained steady at about $2,700 in the last couple of years. There is a difference in costs of ultrasound assisted liposuction and suction assisted liposuction. The difference is almost $300, making the ultrasound assisted procedure more expensive.

If you are considering liposuction make sure to include a thorough analysis of what the procedure will cost and how you are going to pay for it. When you fix an appointment to see the plastic surgeon, you need to ask him about the kind of liposuction that you are getting done; the number of areas that you are getting treated; the amount of fat to be removed from the areas; parts of the body that are going to be treated; and, duration of the procedure.

Also ask your surgeon if he has a price list for liposuction procedures. Once you know how much your liposuction is going to cost, you need to make sure if these prices are reasonable or higher than the average cost of liposuction provided by organizations like the ASAPS.

Find out where you are going to have your liposuction – in a hospital, surgery centers or at a doctor’s office. You also need to know what the cost of liposuction covers. Does the liposuction fee include anesthesia and follow up costs? Does it include the cost of the compression garment that is worn after the surgery, antibiotics and blood tests that might need to be done?

Once you’ve found the answers to all these questions, you’ll know how much of money to keep aside for your liposuction and whether you can afford it or not.
